Short reference field
We’re making a change to the format of our short reference field (short_reference field).
This field appears only on Cash Manager payments and will not be changed for non cash manager payments or conversions.
To make sure there is minimal disruption to the way you handle payments, we wanted to let you know ahead of time in case there’s any changes you need to make internally.
Here’s a little more detail to help answer any questions you may have:
The format of the Short Reference field is changing for Cash Manager payments only.
If you are using the Get Payment and Find Payments APIs, this field is called “short_reference” If you are using Currencycloud Direct, this field is labelled “Reference” (see the screenshot below).
The current format of the short reference field is YYMMDD-AAAAAA001, where AAAAAA are six characters made up of consonants only.
The new format will be YYMMDD-BBBBBBBBB, where BBBBBBBBB are nine characters made up of consonants and numbers. The date structure in the first half of the reference will not change and the total length of the reference will not change.
Who will this change apply to?
Clients making Cash Manager payments only.
When is it changing?
The change will be implemented in the week commencing Monday 25th February 2019.
Why is it changing?
Our daily payment volumes are growing at a significant rate as our clients continue to grow and succeed. We’re delighted about this and want to future-proof our platform in many different ways to ensure we can handle your volume growth for years to come.
By extending the characters available in the short reference field, we have more access to unique identifiers and is just one of the many small changes which will help scale for growth.
