Payments Specialist

About the role

The role is based within the Operations team who ensure all international payments are managed and released according to FCA, HMRC requirements; global bank accounts are monitored, maintained and funded to facilitate payments and client funds are segregated and safeguarded.


The key responsibilities are:

  • Build and maintain an in depth understanding of the Currencycloud’s platform and how international payments are processed
  • Daily tasks consist of:
  • Process and monitor all payments into and out of bank accounts
  • Flag issues with the Relationship Management team and or Compliance to ensure payments are processed accurately and in a timely manner
  • Investigate and resolve customer queries relating to payments efficiently, in line with SLA’s
  • Ensure all transactions have been processed on a daily basis to assist with the reconciliations process
  • Identify improvements and suggest solutions for the operations system, communicating these to the
  • Head of Operations or VP Operations
  • Build and maintain understanding of AML, KYC, banking sanctions, FCA and HMRC regulations; using this knowledge to ensure that handling of client funds occurs within these rules and guidelines
  • Build and maintain an understanding of bank charges, ensure both own and colleagues activities do not incur bank charges
  • Support the Senior Payments Specialist, Head of Operations and VP Operations with ad hoc requests, projects or routine duties
  • Build and maintain relationships with all third party vendors. Ensure service provided is to a high standard and make recommendations to improve and streamline processes and interactions
  • Complete any other ad hoc duties as required.
Experience and Attributes
  • This position would suit either an experienced individual or a recent graduate who is interested in working within a start up environment that is changing the way money moves around the world.
  • As an experienced person you must be able to demonstrate experience of: processing both local and international payments within an FX payments company, bank or broker and / or a company that uses banking platforms. It would be beneficial if you have experience with high volume daily payments processing, completing daily reconciliations and understanding how FCA and HMRC regulations impact our business.
  • As a recent graduate you must be able to demonstrate: some insight into how a cross border payment would operate, have investigated and have some insight into regulatory requirements regarding cross border payments e.g. Anti Money Laundering (AML) and demonstrate an interest in the FinTech industry showing a keen willingness to learn.
Successful Candidates
  • Be able to demonstrate experience in excel, be able to retrieve and analyse data and be comfortable using an apple mac computer
  • Have a meticulous and thorough approach and very high attention to detail
  • Be able to deliver against time pressured deadlines
  • To be flexible in the hours worked to cater for USA clients, should the need arise
  • Be articulate, numerate, organised, hard working and able to build excellent relationships with colleagues and third parties
  • Be able to manage own workload and be a completer finisher
  • Have excellent business English language skills – both written and oral
